Welcome to the video tutorial cohmpetition!
All your tutorial videos will be posted at the front page of the Ohm Side of the Moon, and at the same time posted here altogether; so everybody will be able to check them out at anytime. Obviously the two video tutorials we have done in the past are a reference and supposed to be a kind of starting point. Watch them again, keep the vibe and the mood, forget our stupid jokes and do something with your own style! The tones and tones of internet video on You Tube and Dailymotion are the proof nobody needs great equipment or intelligence to make them, but if it’s actually the first time you’re gonna do it, you can start by reading YouTube’s tutorial, then this nice videomaker one, iMovie stuff for the Apple headz, Windows Movie Maker stuff for the PC one, or even learn with the great old Tim Carter from Ask the Builder!
“Evil-fi your acoustic drum tracks”, by Eric Beam, USA!

He teaches how to tweak Ohmicide:Melohman til get your acoustic drum sounds EVIL-FIED! Eric is a drummer and often a synth freak, check out his two websites, here and here. Watch his tutoria and if you like it leave a comment not just here, but also at video’s page at You Tube. Most commented videos in its pages at You Tube or Dailymotion will get the “Public Choice” prize…

“An intro to the Hematohm”, by Juanjo Cotado, Spain!
(category: Plug-in overview) Second submission comes from Barcelona, Spain! Juanjo Cotado show us all the crazy frequence torture and strectching we can do with this great effect, actually one of the 8 weirdest Ohm Force plug-ins. Watch it and if you think Juanjo could eventually deserve an ALL-ALL Bundle for his masterpiece, don’t forget to leave a comment on YouTube’s video page…

“Wire to Ear: an overview at the OhmBoyz delay”, by Oliver Chesler from USA!
(category: Plug-in overview) Third submission is about one of our bestsellers plug-ins – OhmBoyz – the delay line able to create new kinds of life forms with its two taps, LFO’s, cross feedbacking and warm filtering. Oliver Chesler is a Berlin based american guy, the one behind the excellent “Wire to Ear” web magazine, with loads of interesting music production related stuff, not only daily text news, but also a lot of video content, as good as this one..

“Ohm Force Ohmicide:Melohman”, by Colin Stark from Germany!
(category: Plug-in overview) Cohmpetition fourth’s week brings its fourth submission, again a nice video about our beast Ohmicide:Melohman, this time from Germany, where lives our ohmfriend Colin Stark. Expect from this video tutorial not only sound examples but actually also loads of oral explanation wich help a lot to understand what role or weight each feature is having over the final result. Take a look and don’t forget to leave you comment at video’s page on You Tube if you think Colin deserves an Ohm Force ALL-ALL Bundle…

“Feedback Fun”, by Sven Engdahl from Sweden!
(category: Tricks & Threats) Cohmpetition fifth submission shows some very interesting aspects of the Ohmicide:Melohman, such as the feedback control and several midi tricks concerning auto-bind, DAW automation among many others. Nice examples with electric guitar sounds, showing why Ohmicide:Melohman could be the best guitar pedal your instrument have ever had. If you like it make some noise and leave a comment at youtube video’s page!

“Ohm Force OhMyGod!”, by Steve Mandelbaum from the USA!
(category: Plug-in overview) Cohmpetition sixth submission is an overview of one of our plug-ins we enjoy the most: the OhMyGod! comb filter, wich comes for free at each monthly edition of the “bible” Computer Music magazine and also as a gift for the most of our bundles. Steve explains all the knobs and controls of the plug-in interface, in a kind of a visual “Quick Start Guide”.

“Symptohm:Melohman programming”, by James Brinkhoff from Tasmania!
(category: Tricks & Threats) From where in the world could come a video tutorial about the ferocious – yet always so smooth and organic – Symptohm:Melohman? From Tasmania, of course – the little island separated from Australia by the bass strait! Tasmanian James Brinkhoff takes us in a delightful journey beyond the filter nature of this synth – or the incredible synth capabilities of these filters – showing how to start from scratch then tweaking the existing presets in order to get “the” sound you wanted so much…

“OhmBoyz tutorial”, by Branislav Pakic from Serbia!
(category: Plug-in overview) Branislav turns an melodic house loop on and during a few minutes makes an overview of all main functions and features of the OhmBoyz delay, in this “audio-don’t-stop” tutorial. While he tweaks here and there, he explains the basics of its tap configurations, feedback, feedback filtering, two tap effects and much more!

“OhmBoyz Tricks and Threats”, by Andrea (Macedonia) and Veit (Germany)!
(category: Tricks & Threats) Andrea and Veit are audio-related students at the Graz technical university, in Austria. These friends have done a very well job showing the world how to creatively use the OhmBoyz delay to process beat loops and percussion in general, sometimes just adding some life and spices, other times entirely changing beat’s soul and character and very often finding very exciting ways to process beat loops in order to achieve accompaignment parts for other drum loops or any instrumental arrangement. What those rabbits mean? A kind of a provocation concerning Ohm Force’s long cat supporting tradition? Rabbits are so cute, but you blink your eyes and where it used to be just two, there’s already a third one. We actually bet there’s a third one hidden in Veit’s superstylin hair cut!

“FrOHMage tutorial”, by Mitchell Kehoe from Canada!
(category: Plug-in overview) Cohmpetition’s 10th entry comes from Canada: Mitchell makes an overview of our free plug-in Frohmage filter, not only explaining each feature and each knob – all the time with audio examples going on – but also showing nice tricks about tweaking more than one knob at the same time (wich could be manually or with automation) achieving nice filtering results and ideas, ready to be used in almost any kind of contemporary music.

“OhmBoyz Arpeggiator”, by Ducho from Argentina!
(category: Tricks & Threats) Last hours of the cohmpetition submission period and it seems it’s time for the cherish over the cake: the Ducho collective from Argentina really kicked ass with this funny – yet very useful – OhmBoyz tutorial, showing how the use “the boyz” as a creative arpeggiator-like delay tool. It’s great to see all the OhmBoyz interface creatures becoming alive and guiding us through this wonderful delay journey. Big robot’s voice and style are priceless! Ducho is a collective made of members of the LuquidArgentina, a music production house for advertisements, take a look at their site if you enjoyed the tutorial.

“The Fennec Affair (Symptohm Tutorial)”, by Dominic Réamon from Switzerland!
(category: Tricks & Threats) There are some people who like to play with danger. Dominic is one of them, since he almost lost the train: his submission has arrived yesterday at 10pm (french time) and of course we’ve just seen his mail today, already in August. But it seems all his postponing will be forgiven, since he delivered one of the most worthwhile, crazy and disgusting “things” of this cohmpetition. Anyone asked to see a hairy naked guy on sleeping shorts? Not us!!! Oh god, we’re still trying to erase these creepy scenes from our brains. (…) Ah, we were almost forgetting to tell: this amazing piece of video also teaches how to make crazy (what else?) sounds with the Symptohm:Melohman!…
And if you live in Switzerland, you can even hire this crew to spice up your party…

where is the second video? “We’re sorry but this video is no longer availabe”?
June 5, 2008 at 5:07 pm |
Do we have until the end of July, 2008? Or the end of June to finish the tutorials?
June 5, 2008 at 5:16 pm |
Both videos are working. You have until JULY 31th to submit your video tutorials..
2008, of course
June 5, 2008 at 10:24 pm |
The videos are NOT working. It very clearly says “We’re sorry but this video is no longer available.”
June 6, 2008 at 8:35 am |
Hey Phil, maybe it’s due some traffic problems between YouTube and your ISP, because for me everything works fine !! Just in case, why don’t you try to, instead of using these embedded versions, go directly to the youtube profile of the videos owner? http://www.youtube.com/user/cestar
June 6, 2008 at 8:48 am |
PhilStan, YouTube uses servers local to your ISP to cache the video files.
It’s possible that one of the youtube servers at your ISP hosting those videos failed.
It’s only temporary, I guess, while they get the server back up.
Sorry about that, but it’s out of our reach.
I recommend doing just like Robert says, and going to the aforementioned link.
Cheers
Eric

Avons-nous le choix du language des commentaires pour ce court-métrage ?
June 9, 2008 at 1:15 am |
What do we get for including cats in the vid?? A copy of Cohmpost perhaps
June 9, 2008 at 8:56 am |
Bonjour Jeronimo

Eh SARcazm ! Pay attention to the cohmpetition rules: you can use domestic animals in your videos – even cats! – but it mut be clear they’re having (at least) some fun!

Great comp! Very nicely produced vids so far too. Hey, I was wondering, is it allowable to do a tutorial of a GForce-OhmForce synth like oddity or minimonsta?
July 21, 2008 at 1:33 pm |
Jimb, no problem at all if you submit a video tutorial for Minimonsta or Oddity, the only thing you have to keep in mind is that – concerning the prizes – unfortunately GForce plugins will not be available; but I’m sure you’ll find within our collection something that could make you happy..

Arggh! My clunky old pc is too slow to record video from the screen, and to render asio audio in real time – lots of stuttering and clicking! Plus, I can’t work out how to get the software (camstudio) to record audio from the asio outputs (as opposed to microphone inputs). Maybe I’ll try recording automation in energyXT, then render the audio later and try and sync it with the video. Any tips from others on how to record the screen and audio simultaneously??
